Victoria Wood, renowned British comedian, creator, and actress, died on April 20th, 2016. She was 62 years old. Victoria was born in Prestwich, Manchester, England in 1953. She studied at Bury Grammar School and then trained at the Manchester Polytechnic School of Theatre. She made her television debut on the show “New Faces” in 1974. This led to her first solo show, appropriately named “Victoria Wood: As Seen On TV” which was aired on the BBC in 1982. Throughout the 80s and 90s, Victoria wrote and starred in various popular programs, wrote hit comic songs, and created stage plays. Victoria’s filmography consists of 30 titles, including two television mini-series: “Housewife, 49” (2006) and “Dinnerladies” (1998-2000). Her impressive list of credits includes five BAFTA awards and two Ivor Novello awards. Victoria left behind her daughter, Grace, who she had with longtime partner Geoffrey Durham. Critics often cited her creativity and humor as her most salient features. She brought joy and laughter to all who experienced her work and was genuinely loved by her audience and peers. Her legacy will continue to live on through her works.
