Shashi Kapoor, one of the greatest actors of Indian Hindi cinema, passed away on 4 December 2017 at the age of 79. Born in 1938 in a family of actors, Shashi rose to fame at a young age and grew to become a renowned actor and producer. Through his illustrious career spanning over five decades, he worked in a number of Hindi, English, and Punjabi films. Some of his most memorable performances include leading roles in the movies Hum Paanch, Satyam, Shaan, Kabhie Kabhie, Deewar, Namak Halaal, and Silsila, among many others. He also starred in a few international films like Merchant-Ivory’s Heat and Dust and The Householder. In 1999 he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian award, in recognition of his lifelong achievements in the film industry. He is survived by his wife Jennifer, three children Karan Kapoor, Kunal, and Sanjana, and many other relatives and friends.
