Mary Tyler Moore, beloved actress, film producer, television producer, and philanthropist, passed away on January 25, 2017 at the age of 80. Moore's career began in 1960 when she was cast as Laura Petrie in the popular television show The Dick Van Dyke Show, earning her an Emmy Award. She later starred in the iconic television series The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970-77) where she played the role of television news producer Mary Richards — a role which earned Moore two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe. Moore went on to produce and star in her own television shows and appeared in a number of films. Her film roles included Flirting with Disaster (1996) and Ordinary People (1980), for which she was nominated for an Academy Award. In addition, Moore served as an international chair for JDRF, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Moore dedicated her time and resources to numerous causes and will be remembered for her contribution to the television and film industries, her philanthropic initiatives, and of course, her spirit.
