On July 13th, 1882, Johnny Ringo, an American Old West outlaw, breathed his last breath at the young age of 32. Ringo was born in Greens Fork, Indiana and later moved to California. Early in his life, he briefly served with the Confederate Army in Texas. He joined an outlaw gang led by Cranston Duval, and went on to commit a series of robberies and murders throughout the southwest. Ringo was implicated in several well-known feuds of the old west, including the Mason County War and the Earp-Clanton feud. He once declared himself nemesis to legendary lawman Wyatt Earp. At the time of his death, Ringo had been living in Arizona Territory, but the location and circumstances surrounding his death remain a mystery to this day. His notoriety and fame live on in western folklore. He will be remembered for his life of adventure as an outlaw of the old west.
Those men who, in war, seek to preserve their lives at any rate commonly die with shame and ignominy, while those who look upon death as common to all, and unavoidable, and are only solicitous to die with honour, oftener arrive at old age and, while they live, live happier. Xenophon
