We mourn the death of Peter Lorre, born in Rozsahegy, Hungary on 19 June 1904. He passed away on 23 March 1964 at the age of 59. Peter Lorre was a celebrated film actor, known for his distinctive Humphrey Bogart-like facial expressions and robust delivery of his lines. A veteran of the stage, Lorre made his American theater debut in 1930 and arrived in Hollywood four years later. He would become an integral part of film noir classics such as The Maltese Falcon (1941) and Casablanca (1942). Throughout his career, Lorre featured in numerous horror and suspense films, including Fritz Lang's M (1931), The Stranger (1946), and The Beast with Five Fingers (1946). In addition, he provided voices for animated films like the Bugs Bunny movie, The Incredible Mr. Limpet (1964). His vocal performance of the Cheshire Cat in Disney's Alice in Wonderland (1951) is still remembered today. Lorre was also a prolific writer, penning his autobiography, Thesmophoriazousa: An Autobiographical Novel, as well as contributing articles and reviews to publications such as Films in Review and Motion Picture Magazine. He is survived by his wife, Kaete Beckmann, whom he married in Berlin in 1936. His friends, family and fans remember him fondly.
