Pat Nixon (nee Ryan), passing on June 22, 1993, at the age of 81. Pat Nixon was born Thelma Patricia Ryan on March 16, 1912, in Ely, Nevada. Pat moved to Whittier, California, where she attended high school and was a member of the Thespians club. In 1930, Pat graduated from the Fullerton Union High School. She earned her teaching credentials from Fullerton Junior College. In 1940, Pat married Richard Nixon, and they started the Nixon family in their Whittier home. She was the First Lady of the United States from 1969 to 1974, during her husband Presidents’ administration. Following her time in The White House, Pat joined Richard in a world tour, during which time she campaigned for furthering foreign relations. In 1982, Pat and Richard bought a house in the town of Park Ridge, New Jersey, where she resided until her passing. Pat Nixon was an educated woman, whose love of arts and culture stood out amongst the many causes she adopted during her career. An avid traveler and explorer, she traveled to all seven continents in the 70s. Pat had a strong dedication to a variety of philanthropic organizations, such as The American Red Cross, Save the Children, and United Way. She was also a supporter of the Nixon-Marshall Scholarship, which provides financial aid to promising students who are interested in pursuing higher learning and academics. Pat is survived by her two daughters, Tricia Nixon Cox and Julie Nixon Eisenhower, as well as her six grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her memory will be honored and fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved her.
