Joey Ramone, born Jeffrey Ross Hyman, passed away on April 15, 2001 at the age of 49. Joey was a leader in the punk rock movement and the lead singer of the band The Ramones. The Ramones were one of the first punk bands and paved the way for punk subculture. Joey co-wrote many of the band’s songs and helped give the band their sound and vision. Joey was also a solo artist and released a solo album in 1992. Throughout his career, Joey was an influence on many musicians and his work influenced other genres of music. Joey was an advocate for animal rights and an optimist. He loved to give back to his New York community, where he found inspiration and peace. Joey had a playful spirit that touched many. He will be deeply missed by friends, family, music lovers and fans all over the world. May he rest in peace.
