Joan Crawford, born Lucille Fay LeSueur, was an iconic American actress and dancer, who passed away on May 10th, 1977, at the age of 73. She started her career in the 1920s as a dancer but quickly moved to work in silent film and talkies for studios such as MGM. During her career, she won an Oscar, two Golden Globes, an Emmy, and many other awards. She starred in various genre pictures such as drama comedies, crime thrillers, and period pieces. Crawford produced, wrote and starred in the film “Mildred Pierce” (1945) for which she earned the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She also starred in such classics as “What Ever Happened to Baby Jane” (1962) and “The Women” (1939). She was a major influence on many young actors and was known for her stance on gender and race inequality. Crawford is remembered for always questioning gender roles, being a trailblazer for women in the film industry, and for her vibrant, energetic personality. Her legacy continues to inspire people today. She will be greatly missed.
