It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of James Randi, a world renowned skeptic and magician, who passed away on October 20th, 2020, at the age of 92. James, better known as The Amazing Randi, was born Randall James Hamilton Zwinge in Toronto, Canada, on August 7th, 1928. Over the course of his career, James gained recognition for debunking paranormal claims with his staunch, rational skepticism. He appeared on numerous live and televised shows including That’s My Line, The Tonight Show and The Oprah Winfrey Show. James wrote numerous books such as Flim-Flam! which documented and exposed numerous types of hoaxes, scams, and frauds. In 1996, James founded the James Randi Educational Foundation to promote scientific skepticism by connecting people, educating the public, and proving paranormal claims using scientific tests, trials and disciplines. He was awarded the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship and the 2010 Edward M. Stern AIDS Foundation Humanitarian Award. His memory will continue to live on through the Amazing Randi through the numerous works of art, media, and literature he leaves behind. May his memory be a blessing.
