Jiddu Krishnamurti (1895-1986), a philosopher, spiritual leader, and writer, died at the age of 90 on 17 February 1986. Krishnamurti was born in 1895 in Madanapalle, India and educated in leading Indian schools of the time. He was initially groomed for a career as a spiritual leader in the Theosophical Society, and became renowned as a public speaker celebrated for his character and charisma. He wrote numerous books, articles, and other media, including The Dissolution of the Order of the Star in the East, The First and Last Freedom, and Total Freedom: The Essential Krishnamurti. He traveled extensively and spoke on topics such as religion, meditation, peace, and the culture of modern society. He wrote and lectured extensively about a wide range of philosophical and spiritual concepts, drawing on both Eastern and Western philosophical traditions. Krishnamurti was supported by friends in India, France, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Krishnamurti was a dedicated advocate of human rights and sought to encourage people to recognize freedom and independence of thought, to understand their day-to-day life, and to respect the rights of others. Throughout his life, he maintained a commitment to personal and spiritual growth through rigorous self-examination and inquiry.
