On November 27, 2011, Gary Speed passed away peacefully at the age of 42. Gary Speed had a distinguished football career in England, making over 740 appearances in the Football League and Premier League in a 22-year professional career. Born in Chester, England on September 8, 1969, Gary Speed began his career at Leeds United in 1988 and over the years he also played for Everton, Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers. He won the English top division championship with Leeds and in total, he won four domestic honors during his football career. Gary Speed was recognised for his achievements with a variety of awards such as the PFA Team of the Year and the Football League Record Appearances, which he jointly holds as of his passing. In 2010, Gary Speed was appointed as the manager of the Wales National Team and led them to success with 3 wins, 3 draws and only one loss during his tenure. Regarded by many as an upstanding individual, Gary Speed will be remembered fondly for his contributions to the national and international game of football, social work and charity efforts. Gary Speed is survived by his wife and two sons.
