George Best, the legendary Irish footballer, passed away on 25 November 2005 at the age of 59. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Best began his illustrious career as a youth player for Manchester United Football Club in 1961. A one-club man, Best achieved superstardom with United and became affectionately known as the 'fifth Beatle' for his charisma and talent on the pitch. Having won two First Division titles and the 1968 European Cup, Best was twice named Footballer of the Year and was a four-time recipient of the International Soccer Writers Award. He was also the first footballer to be awarded the freedom of Belfast and the first player to receive the English Football Writers' Player of the Year Award, as well as many others. Best leaves behind a rich legacy as one of the world's greatest footballers, particularly remembered for his lightning pace, clinical finishing, and sheer joy of playing the game. He will be greatly missed.
