Edward G. Robinson, noted actor of stage, film and television, passed away on January 26th, 1973 at age 79. He was born Emanuel Goldenberg in Bucharest, Romania in 1894, to Sarah and Morris Goldenberg, and came to the United States in 1903. Robinson began his career in silent film in 1918, ultimately appearing in over 100 feature films, including “Little Caesar” (1931), “Key Largo” (1948) and “Double Indemnity” (1944). He also appeared regularly in television series and had numerous stage performances throughout the 1930s and 1940s. Robinson’s numerous awards include a 1939 Henrietta Award for World Film Favorite Male, a Golden Globe in 1960 for Entertainer of the Year, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Screen Actors Guild in 1971. His immense film legacy and legacy of philanthropy will always be remembered.
