Humphrey Bogart, who earned international fame as one of Hollywood's most iconic actors, passed away on January 14, 1957, at the age of 57 from throat cancer. He was an admired and respected figure in the entertainment industry for more than three decades, with memorable roles in films such as Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, The African Queen, and Sabrina. Bogart was born in New York City on December 25, 1899, and after an early career in Broadway plays, made his way to Hollywood premiering in Fox Film's 1928 silent drama The Dancing Town. This was followed by more than 80 other feature films, earning him renown as one of the most influential figures in cinema history. His charismatic screen presence earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor in 1951 and an additional three Oscar nominations. Bogart's life-long passion for sailing and the sea was also a tremendous part of his life, with him becoming the first president of the American Game Fishing Association. His beloved sailboat, the Santana, was also featured in several films such as his final film The Harder They Fall. His impressive screen presence and remarkable performances will remain part of cinema culture for generations to come.
