Died March 7th, 1988 at 42 years old in Los Angeles (heart failure).
Renowned singer, actress and comedienne Divine died today at the age of 42. Best known for her outrageous and over-the-top performances in films such as Pink Flamingos, Polyester and Hairspray, Divine was a pioneer in the drag queen community and helped to break down barriers for LGBT performers. In recent years, she had been battling cancer and died in her sleep this morning. She is survived by her longtime partner and collaborator, John Waters.
