Dom DeLuise, the beloved comedic actor and filmmaker, died on August 1, 2009, at the age of 76. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1933, DeLuise began his career as a stand-up comedian at an early age. He later starred in popular films such as “The Great Race” (1965) and “The Cannonball Run” (1981). He was also known for his television roles, such as his portrayal of Gus in the hit sitcom, “Benson,” and his guest appearances on the game show, “Hollywood Squares.” He was nominated for an Emmy Award for outstanding guest actor in a comedy in 1983 and in 1990, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He also had a successful cooking career as the author of several cookbooks. He is survived by his wife, Carol Arthur, and his three sons, Peter, Michael, and David, as well as six grandchildren. DeLuise was known the world over for his warmth, wit, and humor. He will be sorely missed.
