William Harrison Withers Jr., 81, died on March 30th, 2020 in Los Angeles, CA. Bill Withers was born in the small coal-mining town of Slab Fork, West Virginia on July 4th, 1938. He had a career of over four decades and was known for his renowned soulful voice. After serving in the Navy, Bill Withers moved to Los Angeles, CA and started as a factory worker before launching a career in music. He was signed to Sussex Records in 1971, releasing several hit songs like “Lean on Me”, “Ain’t No Sunshine” and “Grandma’s Hands”. All these songs peaked to the charts, thus earning Bill three Grammy Awards. Bill Withers left an everlasting impact in the American music culture, being ranked as one of the fifty most important musicians of the rock era in the Rolling Stone Magazine. Bill Withers is survived by his wife, Marcia Johnson Withers, his children Todd, Kori, and Sestelle, as well as three grandchildren. His legacy lives on in American music forever.
