Aleister Crowley, a noted author, occultist, and founder of Thelema, passed away on December 1, 1947, at the age of 72. Born Edward Alexander Crowley on October 12, 1875, in Warwickshire, England, Crowley quickly became renowned for his writings on the occult, as well as for his colourful and tumultuous personal life. He is most well-known for writing 'The Book of the Law', which is recognized as the founding document of his Thelema religion. Throughout his life, Crowley was involved in various spiritual and ritual organizations, systems of magick, and theories of thought. He traveled the world extensively and was a master of many esoteric institutions, garnering a wide array of achievement and titles. He wrote many books on magick, philosophy, and the occult, which are still widely studied today. Crowley's influence has been extensive in popular culture, appearing in works of films, books, and music. He also founded various religious organizations throughout his life, such as the A∴A∴ and the O.T.O.. He is survived by many followers and admirers of his teachings, as well as his writings, which will continue to be studied for many years to come.
