Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of the beloved character Sherlock Holmes, passed away at the age of 71 on July 7th, 1930. Doyle was born on May 22nd, 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland to Charles Alfred Doyle and Mary Foley. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and graduated in 1881. Doyle wrote many novels, stories, and works of non-fiction during his lifetime, but is most remembered for his series of Sherlock Holmes stories. Doyle published 56 short stories and 4 novels featuring Holmes as the main character. He also wrote plays, poems, and historical fiction. His works are renowned worldwide and have inspired several films, television shows, and parodies. Doyle served as a volunteer doctor in the Second Boer War in South Africa. After the war, he wrote about his experiences and was involved in foreign politics. Doyle was also a distinguished figure of spiritualism, a movement he became involved in after losing his son in World War I. His impacts in literature, spirituality, and foreign politics will never be forgotten.
