Steve McNair, former college and NFL football player, passed away on July 4th, 2009 at the age of 36. Born in 1971 in Mount Olive, Mississippi, McNair attended Alcorn State University, where he became one of the greatest quarterbacks in school history. He was selected by the Houston Oilers in the 1995 NFL Draft. He played in Houston until 1997, when the Oilers moved and became the Tennessee Titans. In his first year with the Titans, he led the team all the way to Super Bowl XXXIV. Throughout his career in the NFL, McNair earned numerous awards and honors, including being selected to the Pro Bowl in 2003, 2004, and 2005, receiving the NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award in 2003, and being named the 2003 NFL Co-MVP Award with Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning. McNair holds various NFL records, including most yards per completion (15.9) in a season (2003) and most consecutive starts (98) without an interception. McNair is survived by his wife, Mechelle McNair, their four children, and his mother, Lucille McNair.
