It is with sadness and grief that we announce the passing of Steve McQueen on 1980-11-07. Known for his leading roles in films such as The Great Escape, Bullitt, The Magnificent Seven, and The Thomas Crown Affair, McQueen left an incomparable mark on the film industry. Early on, McQueen made an impact as a motorcycle racer, competing in the 1950s and winning numerous awards. His racing days concluded after he experienced success in television acting, eventually leading to his career in film. His character in The Great Escape, expertly crafted by McQueen, introduced a new breed of leading man: a tough, streetwise rebel, making him an unforgettable figure of cool. McQueen dedicated his life to work, even during his later years, when he was a pioneering advocate for bicycle safety. He passed away at the age of 50, leaving behind an indelible legacy of work, passion, and talent. He will be remembered for his trailblazing career in both film and racing. May he rest in peace.
