Legendary British singer-songwriter Robin Gibb passed away on May 20th, 2012 at the age of 62 after a valiant battle with cancer and kidney failure. Born in Douglas, Isle of Man in 1949, Robin and his family moved to Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester, England when he was 4. It was here that Robin and his brothers, Maurice and Barry, would form the trio that would become The Bee Gees. Throughout the '60s and '70s, The Bee Gees remained a staple of the music charts with hits like ‘To Love Somebody’, ‘How Deep Is Your Love’, and ‘Stayin’ Alive’, helping to define the sound of the Disco era. Not content with just music, Robin also had a successful solo career. He released ten solo albums between 1970 and 2010, and wrote the music for the stage musical version of The Titanic in the late '90s. Suffering from various health issues, including colon and liver cancer, Robin spent his last years largely out of the public eye; his last performance was in 2009. Robin is survived by his second wife Dwina, their son Robin-John, as well as his adult children Spencer, Melissa and Snow. He will be remembered as a true musical genius and master songwriter whose songs will undoubtedly live on.

When we finally know we are dying, and all other sentient beings are dying with us, we start to have a burning, almost heartbreaking sense of the fragility and preciousness of each moment and each being, and from this can grow a deep, clear, limitless compassion for all beings. Sogyal Rinpoche
