American rapper from new york (1974–2017).

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Albert Johnson aka Prodigy of Mobb Deep, who passed away on June 20, 2017 at the age of 42. Prodigy released his first two solo albums, H.N.I.C. and H.N.I.C. Part 2, both critically acclaimed and highly successful releases. He eventually released seven full solo LP's with three accompanying mixtape projects. Albert Johnson's most notable work is with partner Havoc on the Mobb Deep releases, The Infamous, Hell on Earth, Murda Muzik, Murda Muzik Part 2, Amerikaz Nightmare, Infamous Mobb's Blood Money and The Infamous Mobb Deep. An original pillar of East Coast Hip Hop, Prodigy was known for his sharp razor lyricism and funk influenced production. He delivered his observations of street life with raw emotion and precision. Prodigy was an iconic figure in contemporary rap music who will be remembered fondly. He is survived by his daughter. He will be greatly missed.
