Patty Duke (née Anna Marie Duke on December 14, 1946 - March 29, 2016) passed away after a brief illness. Patty began her illustrious career in 1962 as a child star, famously playing multiple roles in The Miracle Worker. She won an Academy Award, along with numerous Emmy, Golden Globe, and People’s Choice awards for her work. Even after achieving celebrity status, Patty continued to explore diverse roles within television and film, taking on both comedic and dramatic roles. She competed on the 5th season of the hit reality show, The Celebrity Apprentice, and hosted her own talk show, The Patty Duke Show. In addition to her work on screen, Patty was known for her activism, notably working to draw attention to mental illness. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1982, she worked to de-stigmatize mental illness and was an active advocate for mental health awareness. Patty will be remembered for her tremendous talent and her many career accomplishments, as well as her unwavering advocacy for mental health. She is survived by her four children and two grandchildren. Her loss is deeply mourned.
