The world has been saddened by the news of the death of Maud of Wales, who died on 20 November 1938 at the age of 68. Maud was the daughter of Edward VII and Alexandra of Denmark and granddaughter of Queen Victoria and Christian IX of Denmark. She was born on 26 November 1869 as Her Highness the Princess Maud of Wales. In 1896, she married Prince Carl of Denmark, and they had two children, Princess Hilda and Prince Alexander. Upon her sister's death in 1901, Maud became the heir presumptive to the British throne; however, after the sovereign was established in the Commonwealth countries, she relinquished her rights in favor of her son. Maud devoted much of her life to charity work and was known to be a kind and generous person. She was beloved by her family, who will sadly miss her.
