Mark Hurd, 62, died on October 18 2019. He was the prominent former CEO for Oracle Corporation, a role he had served since September 2014. Prior to Oracle, Hurd held executive positions at Hewlett-Packard, PeopleSoft and NCR Corporation. Hurd was born in New York on January 1, 1957 and was raised in the city of Waco, Texas. He graduated from Baylor University with a degree in business and earned an MBA from the University of Texas. Throughout his life, Hurd was a respected leader in the technology and global business fields. His career began early on in 1979 when he worked for Teradata Corporation. Later he joined NCR Corporation as a sales representative and was elected vice president of U.S. Sales and Marketing there. In 1993 he became the company's president of the North American Operations. Hurd was then the CEO of PeopleSoft in 2002, and was hired by Hewlett-Packard in 2005. There he served as Chief Executive Officer until his dismissal in 2011. In 2014, he assumed his role at Oracle Corporation, where he played a pivotal role in growing the company from its foundation and into the powerhouse it is today. Hurd is survived by his two daughters, Kathryn and Melissa, his brother, and extended family.
