John Maynard Keynes (1883-1946) passed away peacefully on April 21, 1946, in his home in Tilton. He was 62 years old. Keynes was one of the foremost British economists of all time, famously celebrated for his theories on macroeconomics. He developed revolutionary new ideas for financial and economic structures during the 1920s, challenging the thinking of the era and opening paths for advances in macroeconomics which are still in use today. He is also known for his pivotal role in the establishment of the Bretton Woods Agreement of 1941, helping to restructure global financial networks in the wake of WWII. At the time of his death, he was the principal of King's College, Cambridge, and had served as economic adviser to the United Kingdom’s Chancellor of the Exchequer. His works include A Tract on Monetary Reform (1923), A Treatise on Money (1930), The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money (1936), and How to Pay for the War (1940). The world has lost an important thinker and leader in the field of economics, but his legacy will be sure to live on.
