Joe Frazier, legendary heavyweight boxing champion, passed away peacefully on November 7th, 2011 at the age of 67. Frazier was born in Beaufort, South Carolina in 1944 and made his professional boxing debut in 1965. Over the course of his career, he won 32 bouts, including 27 knockouts, and won the world heavyweight championship in however, he is perhaps best known for his legendary "Fight of the Century," where he defeated Muhammad Ali in 15 rounds in Madison Square Garden on March 8th 1971. He also won notable fights against Bob Foster and Jimmy Ellis before he retired in 1976. In addition to his success in the boxing ring, Joe Frazier was also a successful entrepreneur. After his retirement from boxing, he opened his own gym in Philadelphia, which served the community for over 30 years until it closed in 2008. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joe Frazier was a devoted family man, loving father, and beloved community figure. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
