Legendary broadcaster, entertainer and philanthropist, Sir Jimmy Savile, passed away peacefully on 29 October 2011 at the age of 84. Sir Jimmy, born on 31 October 1926 in Leeds, was one of the best-known faces in British entertainment. He made his mark as a radio disc jockey and television presenter, most notably with his long-running BBC show, Jim’ll Fix It. From these successes, he forged a long and successful career as an entertainer which included presenting Top of the Pops and Radio 1's popular culture show Savile's Travels. Throughout his career, he was also a noted philanthropist, raising a reported £40 million for charities and good causes, and touching the lives of countless people. His passion for fundraising was renowned, and he was awarded a knighthood in 1990 for his charitable endeavours. Sir Jimmy left behind a huge legacy, having made an indelible mark on the entertainment industry during his lifetime. He will be fondly remembered by fans, friends and all those who were moved by his remarkable kindness and fundraising efforts.
