A Nashville native, Reed was born in 1937 and rose to fame in the late 1960s and 1970s. As a singer, his hits included "Amos Moses," "Lord, Mr. Ford," and "When You're Hot, You're Hot". As a songwriter he wrote several tunes, including "A Thing Called Love," which was later recorded by Johnny Cash. Reed was a frequent collaborator with Cash, and the two wrote the classic patriotic duet "Orange Blossom Special." Reed later released several instrumental albums as a tribute to Cash. He won a Grammy award in 1975 for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for "Amos Moses," and in 1997 was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. Reed will be fondly remembered for his dazzling guitar performances, warm singing voice and easygoing personality. His music will continue to live on in the hearts of his fans.
