Jerry Lewis, beloved actor, comedian, and filmmaker, died on Sunday, August 20, 2017, at the age of 91.
His career began in 1946 with partner Dean Martin in the Martin and Lewis comedy team. He appeared in numerous movies, stage acts, and television shows. He was also the host of the annual “Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon”, which raised more than $2.45 billion for muscular dystrophy research and other charity work.
Lewis was a pioneer of physical comedy and slapstick. He wrote, directed, and produced numerous movies, including “The Bellboy” in 1960, “The Nutty Professor” in 1963, and “The King of Comedy” in 1982. His films earned him lifelong fans and critical acclaim.
He was the recipient of many awards, including numerous lifetime achievement awards, two Golden Globe Awards, five Emmy Awards, and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
He is survived by his sons, Christopher and Scott Lewis, and his daughter, Danielle Lewis. He was preceded in death by his first wife and six sons with her. He will be remembered lovingly by his family, friends, colleagues, and fans.
