Legendary composer and conductor James Horner passed away June 22, 2015 at the age of 61. He was a Grammy- and Academy Award-winning artist who was best known for his score compositions in popular films such as Braveheart, Avatar, and Titanic, which won him an Academy Award for both Original Dramatic Score and Best Original Song. Born in Los Angeles, California on August 14, 1953, Horner was a child prodigy, beginning his musical studies at the age of five, and playing piano, violin, and French horn. He attended the Royal College of Music in London, and earned degrees in music and music composition at the University of Southern California and USC Thornton School of Music. Horner's many film efforts gained him numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, two Saturn Awards, and six BAFTAs. At the time of his death, he had scored over 100 films, including Field of Dreams, Legends of the Fall, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and Apollo 13. Horner will be remembered for his passion, creativity, and talent, and the lasting impact his music will have on generations to come.
