Jóhann Jóhannsson (1970 -2018) passed away on February 9, 2018. He was a successful composer known for significant contributions to the world of cinematic music. Jóhannsson was born in Reykjavík, Iceland in 1970. He began his musical career in 1994 with a number of rock albums, exploring various styles and instruments. His first experience with film scoring came in 2000 with the short film Englar Alheimsins, for which he won an Edda for Best Music. He first became a household name with his score for the 2012 British movie, The Theory of Everything, followed by his work on 2014's hit movie, Sicario. His other works include Arrival (2016) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017). In 2015, Jóhannsson received a Golden Globe Award and an Oscar nomination for his score for Theory of Everything. He received critical acclaim during his career, winning numerous awards including the European Film Award and the Edda. Jóhann Jóhannsson will be remembered for his pioneering and creative approach to film scoring.
