British actor Jack Hawkins, 62, died on July 18th 1973. Hawkins was best known for his role in The Hunt for Red October, but he also had a long and successful career in theatres, films and television. Starting his career as an actor in 1936, he featured in some 55 films, including The Cruel Sea and The Bridge on the River Kwai. He was awarded the CBE in 1959 and was knighted in 1971. Hawkins is survived by his wife, Jessica, and four daughters.
