Harry Morgan, an American actor who found fame on his own terms, passed away on December 7, 2011, at the age of 96. Morgan was born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 10, 1915. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II, and began his acting career in 1947 in a television program called "The Billie Burke Show." He went on to appear in numerous films, television series, and stage plays over the following decades. He was arguably best known for his role as the cantankerous, but ultimately lovable Colonel Potter on the popular CBS television show "M*A*S*H." He also appeared in "Dragnet," "December Bride," and "The Andy Griffith Show," among many other roles. Morgan was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Screen Actors Guild, and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. He won a number of awards, including a Primetime Emmy Award in 1980 for his role on "M*A*S*H." He is survived by his wife of more than fifty years, Barbara Bushman, and their three children, Christopher, Paul, and Penny Morgan. He also leaves behind several grandchildren.
