Fred Hampton, a promising civil rights leader, passed away on Wednesday, December 4th, 1969, at the age of 21. Fred rose to prominence as the Deputy Chairman of the Illinois Chapter of the Black Panther Party and the leader of the Rainbow Coalition. He was a passionate leader who advocated for the rights of not only the black community, but also other disenfranchised communities. He fiercely supported fair access to educational, medical, and housing opportunities for minorities. Fred was cherished by his friends and family and will be remembered as a leader for social justice. His bright and tireless spirit was absorbing and he touched the lives of many in the community. He is survived by his father and mother, Fred and Iberia Hampton, his brother, Bill Hampton, and his sisters Airel, Joanne, and Frances.
