It is with profound sadness that we mourn the death of Dev Anand, who passed away on December 3rd, 2011 at the age of 88. A celebrated Indian actor and filmmaker, Dev Anand was born on September 26th, 1923 in the village of Shakargarh in what is now Pakistan. A talented and versatile performer, he was known for his unique acting style, youthful looks, and natural charisma. Beginning his career in the 1940s, Dev Anand quickly rose to fame with a spate of hit films in the 1950s, notably Hum Dono (1961) and Guide (1965). His fame spread quickly across India, and he went on to develop a devoted international fan base. He was a regular presence in Bollywood for the rest of his life, appearing in over 100 films throughout his career. Dev Anand was the recipient of a number of prestigious awards, including the Padma Bhushan in 2001, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2011. He is survived by his sons Suneil Anand and Devina Anand, and will be remembered for the joy and inspiration he brought to generations of fans.
