Cliff Robertson, born on September 9, 1923, in La Jolla, California, passed away on September 10, 2011, at the age of 88. A notable American actor, Robertson was best known for his Academy Award winning performance for Charly in 1968, and for his role as Peter Parker's uncle in the Spider-Man movies. He was also well known for his founding of the American Film Institute in the 1970s. Robertson proved his talents through his vast acting career, appearing in hundreds of films, television shows, and stage productions. In addition to his acting, he was also passionate about aviation, having obtained his pilot's license in 1943 and later becoming a certified flight instructor. As a result of Robertson's career contribution, he received several awards including an Academy Award, Emmy Award, National Medal of Arts, and even a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, placed in 2003. Throughout his life, Robertson is remembered for his passion for acting and his generous spirit, having established a $6 million scholarship to the American Film Institute. Robertson is survived by his two sons and their families.
