Clarence Clemons, who first rose to fame with the E Street Band, passed away on June 18, 2011 at the age of 69. He grew up in Norfolk, Virginia, where he was given a saxophone as a pre-teen and developed a passion for music. Clemons' first taste of success came when his 1975 debut solo album, The Spirit of New Jersey, charted at number 22 on the US Billboard chart. He then went on to tour and produce a steady stream of popular records under his own name, as well as with Bruce Springsteen and other artists. Clemons achieved international recognition through his work with the E Street Band, dubbed as “the Big Man” for his impressive on-stage performances and solos. His association with Springsteen started in the early 1970s, and the duo were famously photographed in Asbury Park in 1976 for the cover of Rolling Stone. He ultimately recorded on 12 Springsteen studio albums and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. Clemons leaves behind his wife, Erin, as well as his two sons, Charles and Jack. He was a beloved father, husband, and friend, and a highly renowned musician whose legacy will continue to inspire others.
