It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of Capucine, who died on 17th March 1990 at the age of 62. In her lifetime, Capucine was a well-known French actress and model. She had a long and distinguished career in the fields of both film and theatre. Capucine began her career as a model in the 1950s, working for the likes of Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. She made her film debut in 1957 with the musical comedy, 'Gigi', starring with Leslie Caron and Maurice Chevalier. This was followed by many other film and television roles, such as 'The Pink Panther' and 'Anatomy of a Marriage'. She was also a skilled theatre actress, notably acting as Mme de La Fert - a role she repeated on television - in Jean-Paul Sartre’s 'Les mandarins' at France’s Maison de la Culture in 1959. Capucine will be remembered for her beauty, intelligence and wit, and for the charisma which made her stand out in her many film and theatre performances. She is survived by her only child, daughter Olga Redl-Leo. To her memory, her family, friends and admirers will be forever grateful. May she rest in peace.
