William "Bill" Nunn, a beloved actor and playwright, passed away on September 24th, 2016, after a lifetime of work in the theater. He was 62 years old. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1954, Bill Nunn studied theater at the University of Pittsburgh and became an accomplished playwright and actor at the Pittsburgh Playhouse and in regional theaters throughout his career. He appeared regularly at the Public Theater in New York, in the Broadway production of "Dreamgirls," and wrote two solo plays. On the big screen, Nunn starred alongside Samuel L. Jackson in "Do the Right Thing," directed by Spike Lee; Robin Williams in "Good Morning, Vietnam" and the 'Spider-Man' trilogy. His additional film credits include "Ladder 49," "New Jack City," "Sister Act 2," and "Revenge of the Nerds II." Until his passing, Nunn was a member of the Playwrights of Pittsburgh, where his work continues to be performed and taught at universities throughout the country. He will be remembered fondly and his legacy will live on in his art.
