On November 5th, 2011, Bhupen Hazarika passed away at the age of 85. A renowned singer, musician, poet, and filmmaker from Assam, he was known worldwide for his achievements. Hazarika first gained notoriety as a singer of the Assamese language in the 1950s, with hits such as O Ganga Behti Ho Kyun, Bistirno Parore, and Tumi Kemon Kore. During the 1970s, he began writing lyrics for films, and also penned the popular Manuhe Manuhor Babey. His films such as Pratidhwani (1965) and Era Bator Sur (1977), both of which he wrote and directed, were successfully released. Hazarika's fame spread far and wide with his iconic voice and captivating lyrics. He received several accolades throughout his career, including the National Film Award for Best Music Direction in 1975, Padma Bhushan in 2001, and Padma Vibhushan in 2012. The singing legend is survived by his son, producer Tej Hazarika. He will be remembered in the hearts of fans around the world.
