Adolf Eichmann, an Austrian-born German citizen, died on June 1, 1962, at the age of 56. Eichmann, who was at the forefront of the Holocaust in Nazi Germany, was responsible for helping to create and organize the logistics involved in the mass deportation of Jews to concentration and extermination camps. During his trial, he admitted his role and expressed remorse for his ‘tremendous’ moral guilt. He was captured and brought to justice by Israeli forces in Argentina in 1960. The following year, he was found guilty by an Israeli court for numerous war crimes and crimes against humanity, and was sentenced to death. After exhausting all appeals, he was hanged in 1962. He is survived by his wife, Vera Eichmann, and his four sons. He was laid to rest in an unmarked grave.
