On May 26, 2017, world-renowned statesman and scholar Zbigniew Brzezinski passed away at the age of 89. Brzezinski, a renowned Georgetown professor, served as the National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter from 1977 to 1981. He was recognized for his focus on the development of international relations and to the promotion of peace. His efforts earned him the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1981. He also advocated a more assertive United States policy in the Middle East, the Persian Gulf region, and ultimately in Central and Eastern Europe. Throughout his life, he authored and co-authored 25 books on history, international affairs, and diplomacy. Brzezinski also remained involved in the tradition of writing and sharing his views throughout his life, appearing on the media, and giving speeches around the world. He served in many prestigious positions in both the private and public sectors. Brzezinski was born on the 28th of March in 1928 in Warsaw, Poland. After later living in Canada and the US, he eventually graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and Harvard University in the United States. At the time of his death, Brzezinski was survived by his four daughters, Mika, Ian, Mark and Megan and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emilie, who passed away in 2014. Brzezinski was a prominent global figure who will be remembered for his tireless work and dedication to international peace and understanding.
