Yakub Abdul Razak Memon, born 1962, passed away on July 30th, 2015 at age 53. Yakub had earned two degrees in commerce and was chief accountant for his family's business. He was also known as an active philanthropist in the Indian community and had a passion for teaching underprivileged children. In 1993, Yakub was arrested in connection with the 1993 Bombay bombings, and he was subsequently found guilty of financing and harboring the attackers. He was sentenced to death in 2007. After his death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court of India and a presidential clemency was denied, he was the only offender to face the gallows in 2015. Yakub is survived by his wife, mother, two brothers, and their families. He was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, and uncle, and he will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one’s head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday, and no to-morrow. To forget time, to forget life, to be at peace. Oscar Wilde
