William Frederick Halsey Jr., died on August 20th, 1959 in Fishers Island, New York at the age of 76. William was born into a naval family on October 30th, 1882 in Elizabeth, New Jersey and attended the Naval Academy, graduating in 1904. He served as a Commander in the Spanish American War and was ultimately promoted to admiral in 1941. William is remembered for his military service in World War II, as both a fleet commander in the Pacific for the Allies and Commander of the US Third Fleet. As part of his service during the war, he pushed back Japanese forces during the Battle of Leyte Gulf and received several decorations, including the Army Distinguished Service Medal. William will be remembered and honored as a great national hero. His career and service will live on in the memories of the nation. He is survived by his son, wife, and mother.
