Wilfred Owen (1893-1918) passed away on November 4, 1918 at the age of 25. Wilfred Owen, an English poet and soldier, died during World War I. He belonged to the Second Manchesters, and was killed in action as he attempted to lead his men across the Sambre–Oise Canal at Ors. Born in 1893 in Oswestry, England, Owen had a brief career marked with distinctions. His work was mostly posthumous and included famous war poems such as 'Dulce et Decorum Est' and 'Anthem for Doomed Youth.' During his lifetime he was acknowledged by the likes of H.G. Wells, and his work was also praised by the likes of Siegfried Sassoon and Robert Graves. Owen’s work expressed his strong sense of pity for those affected by the war. He also advocated a movement which promoted a morally just war. His death has been commemorated by an annual Wilfred Owen Festival that celebrates his life and poetry.

Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one’s head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday, and no to-morrow. To forget time, to forget life, to be at peace. Oscar Wilde
