It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Walter Benjamin, the renowned German cultural critic, philosopher, and literary historian. He died on Thursday, September 26th, 1940, at the age of 48. Walter was best known for his influential works on aesthetics, literature, history, and culture. His famous essay, “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction”, remains a cornerstone of cultural criticism and has been widely published and discussed. Walter received his university degree in German literature from the University of Bern. During his career, he was affiliated with the Institute for Social Research in Frankfurt and the Institute for Jewish Studies in Berlin. He was also a well-loved professor of philosophy at the Universities of Frankfurt, Berlin, and Paris. Walter was recognized for his valuable contributions to German thought and cultural discourse in many countries. It is with heavy hearts that we remember his life and legacy.
