Vivien Leigh, Academy Award-winning actress, died in London, England on July 8th, 1967 at the age of 53. The Birmingham-born actress is best known for her roles in Vivien Leigh made her stage debut in 1929, and made her feature film debut in 1933's Things Are Looking Up. Her breakout role came in 1935 when she starred in David Lean's adaptation of Aleanlesl Waugh's "Away with the Fairkies." The actress went on to co-star with Laurence Olivier in a series of films, including the timeless classic "Gone with the Wind." In 1940, Leigh won her first Academy Award for Best Actress for "Gone with the Wind." She won her second Academy Award for Best Actress in 1951 for her performance in "Streetcar Named Desire." Leigh was also an acclaimed stage actress who worked on Broadway and in the West End. She was nominated for a Tony Award in 1957 for her performance in "A Touch of the Poet." Leigh leaves behind her daughter Suzanne and her husband Laurence Olivier, who died in 1989. She will be remembered as one of the greatest actresses of her time.
