Vilasrao Deshmukh, former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, India, passed away on August 14th, 2012, aged 67. Born in a farming family, Vilasrao Deshmukh was a Member of the Indian Parliament representing Maharashtra, and held the post of Minister of Earth Sciences and Human Resource Development. He was also successful in diversifying politics and heavily encouraged public health reforms in Maharashtra. Over the years, Vilasrao Deshmukh worked to ensue better standards of living for the citizens of his constituency, as well as contributing to the development and welfare of the state of Maharashtra. In his memory, the state of Maharashtra briefly renamed the Latur Airport after him until it was recently changed back to its original name of Osmanian Airport. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
